HELENA, Mont. – The filing deadline for legislative candidates in the 2022 election came yesterday at 5 pm. The results of this year’s candidate filings show that 2022 is shaping up to be a good year for Republicans. In response to the candidate filing closure, Montana Republican Party Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt released the following statement:

“After looking at the results of this year’s final candidate filings, one thing is absolutely clear: Republicans in Montana are on track to grow our majorities this November,” Chairman Kaltschmidt said. “Democrats are leaving dozens of seats uncontested while Republicans have strong candidates in almost every district across the state.”

“Montanans overwhelmingly supported Republican candidates in 2020 and over the past fourteen months, Montana Republicans have fulfilled promises they made to voters under much-needed conservative leadership. From leading Montana’s Comeback Plan to standing up against federal overreach and defending our freedoms, there is no doubt that Montana is stronger under Republican leadership. The Montana Republican Party is looking forward to expanding our majorities in the state legislature and know that our best days are ahead.”

Montana Republicans have candidates in 124 out of 126 seats in the upcoming election. Democrats failed to recruit candidates in 24 out of the 126 legislative districts on the ballot this cycle, meaning Republicans are guaranteed to win those seats in November.

Republicans had a total of 167 candidates file for office, while Democrats produced only 106 candidates.
