MTGOP Statement on Election Integrity Lawsuits

Helena, MT: Montana Republican Party Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt released the following statement today after another lawsuit was filed against Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen for safeguarding Montana elections:

“The Montana Republican Party strongly supports Montana’s Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen and her efforts to strengthen the security of Montana’s elections,” said Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt. “Montanans elected a Republican to every statewide office on the ballot in 2020, and our leaders in Helena are standing up for the rule of law and the security of our elections. These lawsuits are an attempt by organizations that are unhappy with the outcome of the election to use the courts to undermine the majority of Montanans that want to see commonsense election security measures put in place. And the Montana Republican Party is grateful for Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen’s efforts to strengthen the security of our elections, and for Governor Gianforte signing these important bills into law.”

The Montana Democratic Party, and The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Native American Rights Fund, filed two separate lawsuits challenging the election security measures that Governor Gianforte signed into law following the 67th Legislative Session.

The lawsuits allege that it is unconstitutional to require voters to be registered before election day and provide photo identification at the polls, and to prevent political operatives from accepting money in exchange for harvesting ballots.
