Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt Releases Statement Following VP Harris’s Trip to Southern Border

HELENA, Montana- Montana Republican Party Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt released the following statement regarding Vice President Harris’s long overdue visit to the southern border:

“Kamala Harris’s trip to the border was nothing but a photo-op. The Vice President stopped in El Paso, Texas—a thousand miles from where the actual border crisis is happening. And let’s keep in mind, the announcement of her visit came shortly after President Trump shared he would be visiting the border with Texas Governor Greg Abbott,” said Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt.

“The Biden Administration’s efforts to sweep this crisis under the rug is truly a disgrace to our country and to those suffering at the hand of their harmful immigration policies—or lack thereof. We have seen the devastating effects of the unsecured southern border right here in Montana. Meth, fentanyl, and other harmful drugs are being smuggled across the border into our communities and are tearing Montana families apart.

“I am grateful for Senator Daines, Congressman Rosendale, Attorney General Knudsen, and Governor Gianforte for their work to shed light on this devastating crisis, secure the southern border, and protect Montana’s communities. The Democrats need to stop making what’s happening at the southern border a partisan issues and act now.”

Just last month, Montana Senator Jon Tester failed to provide relief to the illegal-immigration crisis by siding with his far-left allies and voting against construction of the border wall.

Tester, Senate Democrats, Fail in Effort to Takeover our Elections

HELENA, Montana – Today, Senator Tester’s deeply flawed S.1, or the deceptively named “For the People Act”, failed on the Senate floor. This radical, federal election takeover bill is another example of a far-left power grab to gain control of our Federal Elections to ensure Democrat control in Washington, D.C.

“This afternoon, Senate Democrats, including Senator Tester, showed their true colors by voting in favor of the radical S.1, or “For the People Act” – which really isn’t for the people at all, and would be an absolute disaster for our country,” said Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt. “It would have completely eliminated voter ID laws, used taxpayer dollars to fund Democrat attack ads, and undermine the work the Montana Legislature passed this legislative session to strengthen the integrity of our elections. It would also have forced states to allow ballot harvesting, automatically register voters, and completely disregard the Constitution.

The Constitution is clear that the ‘Times, Places, and Manner of holding elections’ lies with the Montana legislature, and Senator Tester should be ashamed of his attempt to disregard our legislature’s work for his own political gain. Montanans support election integrity, and I am grateful for both Senator Daines and Congressman Rosendale’s steadfast opposition to this radical proposal.”

Don “K” Kaltschmidt re-elected as MTGOP Chairman

HELENA, Montana- On Saturday, June 19th, members of the Montana Republican Party unanimously re-elected Chairman Don K at their State Officers’ Convention. Vice Chairman and State Representative Lola Sheldon- Galloway was also chosen to serve a second term as Vice Chair.

Chairman Don K released the following statement after the unanimous decision:

“It is an honor to be re-elected as the Chairman of the Montana Republican Party. I want to thank the members of the MTGOP for choosing me to lead our party for another two years and look forward to serving our Party in this critical role once again.

We achieved historic success in 2020 and Republicans now maintain control of 7 out of 8 statewide offices. And thanks to the hard work of our elected Montana State Legislators, we had an incredibly successful 67th legislative session. Through our strong grassroots movement, exceptional team, and continued momentum, we will continue to advance conservative values across our state.

With Montana picking up a second congressional seat, I have no doubt that next year, we will send not one, but two Republican members of Congress back to Washington D.C. to fight back on President Biden’s radical agenda. Our convention this weekend demonstrated the enthusiasm among Montana Republicans, and that together, we are stronger. Montana Republicans are more united than ever before, and we look forward to victories across our state next year.”

Biden BLM Nominee and Radical Environmentalist Tracy Stone-Manning “Collaborated with Eco-Terrorists”

Helena, MT – The Montana Republican Party voiced strong opposition to President Biden’s appointment of longtime environmental extremist and political operative Tracy Stone-Manning to oversee the Bureau of Land Management – and for good reason.

Recent court documents reveal that Stone-Manning, former staffer to Senator Jon Tester and Governor Steve Bullock, “collaborated with eco-terrorists” in a tree spiking plot before trading her court testimony for legal immunity in the early 1990’s. Many members of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee have rightfully expressed outrage over her involvement in the scheme, as tree spiking is a dangerous and violent tactic meant to cause harm to loggers and forest products workers.

Tracy Stone-Manning’s involvement in this incident is more than enough to disqualify her from leading the United States Government’s largest land management agency, and her background in leading dark money organizations that spent millions in pursuit of an extreme agenda to kill the Keystone XL Pipeline and harm Montana’s farm and ranch communities further displays the harm she will due at the helm of the BLM.

  • Worked for and even led several radical environmental organizations known for extreme approaches including EarthFirst! and the Montana Conservation Voters, which is funded by dark money out of Washington, D.C.
  • Supported out-of-mainstream views such as: breaching dams, cancellation of the Keystone XL Pipeline, stopping federal energy development, and massive wilderness designations without local support.
  • Opposed bipartisan, collaborative policies such as the Lewistown RMP, sage grouse plan amendments, and the relocation of the BLM headquarters to the West.

ICYMI: Tester Puts His Hypocrisy on Full Display, Supports Eliminating Filibuster

Helena, Mont. – Last week, Senator Tester was on All In with Chris Hayes where he admitted that he’s ready to eliminate the filibuster when the time comes to continue fulfilling the radical left’s agenda. Don’t believe us? Check it out HERE.

During the interview, Tester claimed that Republicans are “weaponizing” the filibuster and that’s why he and his Democratic colleagues are ready to eliminate it. But let’s take a look at the facts. Senator Tester voted to filibuster legislation 280 TIMES while Republicans controlled the Senate. For comparison, Senate Republicans have used the filibuster ONE TIME in the last SIX YEARS.

“It’s a shame that Senator Tester has become so far removed from his Montana values that he is willing to flip flop on his positions while selling out to radical progressives in Washington, D.C.” said Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt. “Montanans see through Tester’s hypocritical charade. If he votes to eliminate the filibuster it will be clear to everyone that his word is for sale, and this time around his pocketbook is being padded by his progressive allies in Washington.”

It was only two years ago that Senator Tester vowed he would NEVER eliminate the filibuster.

MT Supreme Court Upholds Governor’s Ability to Fill Judicial Vacancies

Helena, Mont. – Montana GOP Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt released the following statement in response to the Montana Supreme Court ruling that Senate Bill 140 is constitutional, securing Governor Gianforte’s constitutional duty to appoint district court judges and supreme court justices to fill judicial vacancies.

“After a failed attempt by democratic operatives to alter the will of the Montana legislature, it’s great to see that the Montana Supreme Court has come to the obvious conclusion that Senate Bill 140 is in fact, constitutional,” said Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt. “Republicans can rest easy knowing that our Governor will have the power to appoint unbiased, objective judges to Montana’s judicial system that will uphold our Constitution and not legislate from the bench.”

MTGOP Statement on Final Closure of the Keystone XL Pipeline

Helena, Mont. – Montana GOP Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt released the following statement after TC Energy’s announcement that they will terminate construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline permanently.

“Termination of the Keystone XL Pipeline is a devastating blow to hard working Montanans, small communities, our energy sector, and big sky country,” said Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt. “Thousands of energy jobs wiped out with one decision, all because President Biden chose to bend to the will of progressive leftists and radical environmentalists. And to add insult to injury, not even one month ago Biden waived sanctions allowing construction of a Russian pipeline to continue. Biden has made his agenda clear; Russia takes priority over America. What a sad and difficult day for our nation, and Montana.”

Yesterday, TC Energy announced they would be terminating construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline. On the first day of Biden’s presidency, he halted construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline which has now led to it’s termination by TC Energy.

ICYMI: AG Knudsen’s Keystone XL Pipeline Lawsuit Gains Additional Support From Alaska, Florida

Helena, Mont. – Last week, Attorney General Austin Knudsen’s lawsuit calling Biden’s decision to cancel the Keystone XL Pipeline unconstitutional gained additional support from the attorneys general of Alaska and Florida.

“It’s great to see more states from around the U.S. join AG Knudsen’s lawsuit against Biden’s unconstitutional cancellation of the Keystone XL Pipeline,” said Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt. “Biden’s decision has destroyed thousands of good paying energy jobs, stopped critical revenue streams for local schools and infrastructure in small communities, and hurt hard working rural Montanans throughout Eastern Montana. It’s reassuring to see so many Republicans in America stand up to Biden’s blatant attacks on a pipeline so important to Montana and our nation.”

The lawsuit now has support from 23 states and has even gained verbal support from the Saskatchewan government. Multiple exhaustive studies have been done that prove that the Keystone XL Pipeline would create good paying Montana energy jobs and provide a cleaner, safer method of transportation for oil across our country.

MTGOP Statement on Memorial Day

Today is a day that we and our fellow Americans proudly remember those who served in defense of the greatest Country in the world, and paid the ultimate price in defense of our freedom. We are forever grateful to those willing to serve and protect America’s interests, and, as President Reagan said, that though we should hold no illusions about what little we can add “to the silent testimony of those who gave their lives willingly for their country, we must try to honor them.”

Today, as Americans, let us use actions rather than words to honor the greatness of the men and women who are willing to give everything in defense of our great Nation. Make sure your actions today and everyday reflect the values and vision that led many to pay the ultimate price for the freedom we hold dear, and may we always strive to better ourselves and our country by appreciating those who allow us to do so.

God Bless,

Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt

ICYMI: Montanans Want to Finish the Wall on the Southern Border, Why Doesn’t Senator Tester?

HELENA, MT – Last week, The United States Senate including Montana’s own Jon Tester had an opportunity to support additional border wall construction which would have provided relief to the illegal-immigration crisis along our nation’s Southern border. What comes as no surprise to Montanans however, is that Senator Tester sided with his far-left allies and voted against border wall construction, AGAIN.

“It comes as no surprise that Senator Tester continues to side with his progressive far-left allies in Washington when it comes to illegal, unchecked, open border immigration policies,” said Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt. “In the last election, Montanans overwhelmingly voted for a Republican ticket that supports the completion of the Southern border. Senator Tester continues to prove to us that after spending over a decade in the swamp, he’s out of touch with Montanans.”

Last Thursday, the United States Senate voted on an Amendment that would have stopped the cancellation of already approved and funded southern border wall construction contracts. The amendment that would have allowed construction to continue failed, showing that Senator Tester and his “progressive” far-left allies believe that the ongoing illegal immigration crisis should remain unchecked on our Southern border.

ICYMI: Montana Board of Regents Ignores 2nd Amendment, Seeks Lawsuit Against Legal Campus Carry

HELENA, MT – While Montanans across the state have been celebrating the successful expansion of their 2nd Amendment rights, the Montana Board of Regents announced they would be filing a lawsuit to block constitutional carry on university campuses.

“Montana’s Board of Regents is not only ignoring the will of Montanans, but they are trying to claim that their opinions outweigh the facts written in our Constitution,” said MTGOP Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt. “This is just another sad attempt by institutions that are unhappy with the outcome of the last election to undermine the legislative process and the Constitutional rights of Montanans.”

Last week, the Board of Regents announced they will be filing a lawsuit with the Montana Supreme Court to challenge Montanan’s constitutional right to carry a firearm on Montana universities that was included in HB 102 that was signed into law in February.

Montana GOP Unveils Committee to Prevent Gerrymandering

Helena, MT – Today, Montana Republican Party Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt appointed Terry Nelson of Ravalli County to lead the MTGOP Redistricting Committee which will work to hold the Montana Districting and Apportionment Commission accountable during the redistricting process.

Redistricting Committee Chair Terry Nelson provided the following statement after the Committee’s formation:

“The Redistricting process plays a critical role in securing reasonable representation for the people of Montana and I appreciate Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt’s nomination to lead this important effort on behalf of the Montana Republican Party,” said Terry Nelson. “We need to ensure that we have a transparent and equitable process that is free of political calculation or any effort to gerrymander Montana’s Congressional or Legislative Districts, and I look forward to working with community leaders in the months ahead.”

Following the announcement of a second Congressional District on April 26th, Montana Republicans, despite unanimous opposition from Montana Democrats, passed legislation to prevent gerrymandering by requiring the Commission to design Congressional Districts that are compact, continuous, and of equal population to ensure Montanans are best represented in our two Congressional Districts.

Montana Republicans continue to express concern with the Commission’s members and recent maps found in the Montana Capitol show there is an interest in creating Congressional Districts that favor political ideology, not commonsense criteria that would ensure accurate representation for the people of Montana.

While Montanans expect a nonpartisan redistricting process, the process to this point continues to heighten concern for Montana Republicans. However, the MTGOP Redistricting Committee is hopeful that the Commission’s fifth member, Maylinn Smith, will abide by her past comments to “listen to both sides” and “reach a fair resolution” as Commission Chair.

The Montana Republican Party Redistricting Committee includes the following individuals:

Terry Nelson – Ravalli County

Sarah Swanson – Valley County

Tim Stark – Yellowstone County

Vondene Kopetski – Missoula County

Chris Shipp – Yellowstone County

Mary-Rose Beasley – Musselshell County
