HELENA, Mont. – Montana Republican Party Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt released the following statement in response to former Congressman and Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke’s victory, securing the Republican nomination for Congressional District 1:

“As Montana’s Congressman, Ryan Zinke put the people of Montana first. He protected our treasured public lands, fought for fiscal responsibility, and defended our Second Amendment rights. As Secretary of Interior, he unlocked access to millions of acres of public lands, led the way for American energy independence, and implemented common sense forest management policies. And as a United States Navy Seal, he protected our nation and defended our freedoms,” Chairman Kaltschmidt said. “With the Speaker’s gavel in Nancy Pelosi’s hands, in 18 short months Montanans have been faced with record high fuel prices, decades high inflation, surging crime rates, supply chain jumbles-and we have had enough. Voters in Montana’s first congressional district are ready to take back to the U.S. House, and get our nation back on track by sending Ryan Zinke back to Washington D.C. to clean up the mess that Pelosi and Joe Biden created.”

“In sharp contrast, his Democrat opponent and Pelosi pawn Monica Tranel will be in lockstep with the Biden Administration’s attack on American oil and gas, support out of control government spending leading to even higher inflation, and trample on Montanans Second Amendment rights.

“The choice for Montanans this November couldn’t be clearer. Ryan Zinke has delivered for Montanans before, and I know he will do it again. He will be a great fighter for our state and we look forward to having him serve the people of Montana.”

Contact: alden@mtgop.org

HELENA, Mont. – Montana Republican Party Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt released the following statement in response to James Brown advancing to the general election in November in his campaign for the Montana Supreme Court:

“Congratulations to James Brown in his race for the Montana Supreme Court by advancing to the general election in November to take on former Governor Bullock’s appointed liberal justice, Ingrid Gustafson,” said Chairman Kaltschmidt. “The people of Montana made it clear tonight- they are tired of the cycle of liberal activist judges who use their power to further the Democrats political agenda.”

“By electing James Brown to the bench in November, Montanans are sending a resounding message that we want judges who will interpret the laws based on the Constitution and not rewrite them to serve the Democrats’ political interests. Having been endorsed by Governor Gianforte, Senator Daines, Congressman Rosendale, Attorney General Knudsen, the Montana Republican Party, and over 80 Republican legislators, Montanans can be confident that James Brown is the right person for the job who will defend our constitutional rights.”

Having finished in the top two for the Montana Supreme Court race, James Brown will face off against liberal activist judge Ingrid Gustafson in November for her current seat on the Montana Supreme Court.

HELENA, Mont. – Montana Republican Party Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt released the following statement in response to Congressman Matt Rosendale’s overwhelming victory in the Republican Primary for Montana’s 2nd Congressional District this evening:

“Congressman Rosendale has always been a great fighter and proven leader for the people of Montana-which is why the Montana Republican Party came out early to endorse his re-election campaign. We are thrilled to see him have a resounding victory tonight and look forward to another sweeping victory for him in November,” said Chairman Kaltschmidt. “Montanans have always been able to count on Matt Rosendale to stand up for their rights, freedoms, and liberties. From working tirelessly to secure our Southern border, to standing up for Montana veterans and protecting our Second Amendment rights-Matt Rosendale has proven to be an effective leader for our state that Montanans can depend on to make the right choices.”

“Rosendale’s track record of saying no to out-of-control government spending, fighting for Made in America energy resources, and putting Montana values first speaks for itself,”continued Kaltschmidt. “Now more than ever, Montana needs strong conservatives in D.C. to stand up to the Biden administration – and since his first day in office, he has shown that he is up to the task. Rosendale has done an excellent job representing Montanans and we look forward to his return to Congress.”

MTGOP Statement Honoring Memorial Day

On this day every year, we take the time to honor and remember the brave servicemen and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice to defend our freedoms. Each of these heroes had their own story, their own lives, and their own beliefs, but they were willing to give up their freedom to defend ours. As many Americans spend the day today with family, friends, and neighbors, let us take the time to remember those who have given us the opportunity to live in the greatest country in the world. On this Memorial Day, let us keep those who aren’t with us today because of their selfless sacrifice to our country in the forefront of our minds. May we never forget that freedom is not free. God bless our servicemen and women, and God bless the United States of America.

Thanks to Gianforte’s Leadership, Montana’s Unemployment Remains at Record Low

FOR RELEASE

HELENA, Mont. – While Montanans continue to experience the devastating effects of the poor policies and incompetence of Joe Biden and his Democrat allies in Washington D.C., Montana’s Republican elected officials are doing everything they can to provide relief to make life better for all Montanans.

Governor Gianforte announced today that our unemployment rate for the month of April remained at a record low 2.3%, the labor force is the highest in history, and businesses are moving to Montana at a rapid rate-increasing job opportunities across the state. While success under Governor Gianforte’s leadership is clear, the average Montana household is paying an extra $652 per month due to Biden’s inflation fiasco. In response to today’s new employment data, Montana Republican Party Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt released the following statement:

“Governor Gianforte and all of Montana’s Republican elected officials are showing that Montana is clearly stronger under Republican leadership,” Chairman Kaltschmidt said. “Unfortunately, the progress we are making here in Montana is being hit by the failures of the Biden administration from 2,500 miles away. Joe Biden, Jon Tester, and the rest of the Democrats in Washington D.C. have offered zero solutions to provide any relief to Montana families who are feeling the effects of their failures. Whether it’s gas prices, baby formula shortages, surging crime rates, or the Southern Border, this administration offers zero solutions to get our nation back on the right track. We must elect Republicans up and down the ticket in November to steer our nation back in the right direction.”

The Montana unemployment rate has dropped by almost 50% and has added over 25,000 new jobs since Governor Gianforte took office in January of 2021. While Montana’s job and economic data continues to show progress, this month U.S. inflation stayed near a record high, gas prices have hit all time highs 9 of the last 10 days, and the average Montanan is paying an extra $232 a month in food and energy costs.

This November, Republicans will take the gavel out of Nancy Pelosi’s hands and Montanans will send two Republican members of Congress back to Washington D.C. to clean up the mess Jon Tester and Joe Biden have created.

Montana Supreme Court Reinstates Election Integrity Laws

FOR RELEASE
May 18, 2022
Contact: alden@mtgop.org

HELENA, Mont. – In a 4-1 ruling, a five judge panel of the Montana Supreme granted Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen’s appeal of a preliminary injunction issued by liberal activist judge Michael Moses that prevented Montana’s new election integrity laws from going into effect ahead of the June 7th primary. The ruling will prevent Election Day voter registration and require all voters to produce a valid form of ID before voting in person. In response to the ruling, Montana Republican Party Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt released the following statement:

“The Supreme Court made the right decision in reinstating Montana’s common sense election integrity laws that make it easier to vote and harder to cheat,” Chairman Kaltschmidt said. “The election laws our legislature passed should not be a partisan fight, but unfortunately the Montana Democrats were able to count on their friend Michael Moses in the district court to strike them down. Thankfully, Secretary Jacobsen continued her strong record of standing up for election integrity and was able to get these laws back on the books for now.”

In the ruling, the Justices sided with Secretary Jacobsen due to the fact that elections had already been conducted under the new laws and it was important to “preserve the status quo”.

Following the ruling, voters in Montana must have registered to vote before noon on the day prior to the election. Also, college student ID’s are no longer a sufficient form of voter ID. Valid forms of voter ID now include: Montana drivers license, Montana state ID, Military ID, Tribal photo ID, US passport, or a Montana concealed carry permit.

Tester Votes for Democrats “Abortion For All” Bill

FOR RELEASE
May 12, 2022
Contact: alden@mtgop.org

HELENA, Mont. – Senator Jon Tester voted with 48 other Democrats in favor of the most radical piece of pro-abortion legislation in United States history. If passed, the legislation would mandate access to abortion with effectively no limits nationwide. Thankfully, the effort was blocked as all 50 Republicans were joined by Democrat Senator Joe Manchin in opposing this bill. In response to Tester’s vote, Montana Republican Party Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt released the following statement:

“Jon Tester has once again proved he is beholden to the far left, siding with Chuck Schumer and his radical posse of D.C. Democrats by trying to jam the most extreme anti-life bill through the United States Senate,” Chairman Kaltschmidt said. “Not only would this bill have circumvented the federal court system in codifying Roe v. Wade, it would have been much worse than that. This bill would have allowed non-doctors to perform abortions, rolled back existing bans on late-term abortions, removed consciousness objections for pro-life doctors, and would have allowed abortion on demand for virtually any reason, up until the moment of birth. The media should stop giving Jon Tester the honor of being called a “moderate” and call him what he really is – just another pawn of the Biden administration and their extreme agenda.”

Not only was the Democrat’s bill the most radical abortion bill in history, but Jon Tester and his fellow Democrat senators knew it was so bad, they blatantly lied about what the bill would have accomplished. Even Democrat Senator Joe Manchin stated “They’re trying to make people believe that this is the same thing as codifying Roe v. Wade. And I want you to know, it’s not. This is not the same. It expands abortion.”

Sadly, this isn’t Senator Tester’s first attempt to pass extreme pro-abortion legislation. to In February, Tester voted to advance to “Abortion on Demand Act” bill that would have made abortion on-demand a federal law. Tester also has continued to support tax-payer funded abortion, despite the majority of Americans supporting the Hyde Amendment.

Thankfully, founder and chairman of the Senate Pro-Life Caucus and Montana Senator Steve Daines voted against the radical anti-life legislation saying, “The Democrats’ abortion bill would codify an extreme abortion regime that is aligned with brutal nations such as China and North Korea – which would impose abortion up until the moment of birth without any limits in all 50 states. In a nutshell, this radical bill would make the United States of America one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a preborn child.”

Congressman Matt Rosendale also spoke up against the Democrats pro-abortion push, sharing he will oppose any pro-abortion legislation that may come to the floor of the U.S. House in the coming weeks.

MTGOP Honors Law Enforcement During National Police Week

FOR RELEASE
May 11, 2022

Contact: alden@mtgop.org

HELENA, Mont. – With today beginning National Police Week, the Montana Republican Party recognizes the heroism of all of Montana’s law enforcement officers and remembers those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. In response to the start of National Police Week, Montana Republican Party Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt released the following statement:

“Montana’s law enforcement officers represent the best of our communities,” Chairman Kaltschmidt said. “Whether it’s our highway patrol, county sheriffs, city police departments, tribal law enforcement, or campus police, these heroes put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe. This week, we take the time to remember the 144 Montana law enforcement officers who gave their lives to protect ours, and honor all the brave men and women who bravely protect our communities. Unfortunately, our officer’s jobs have been made even tougher by defund the police fanatics and radical Democrats who refuse to secure the southern border, get a grip on the drugs pouring into our communities, and bring common sense solutions to skyrocketing crime rates. Our law enforcement officer’s and their families can always count on the Montana Republican Party to support our law enforcement heroes!”

Montana’s Republican elected officials have consistently stood up for law enforcement and pro-police legislation, while Democrats have been quick to support radical anti-law enforcement groups, adopt slogans such as “defund the police”, and vote against bills designed to protect our law enforcement officers. Now more than ever, Montana’s law enforcement needs to know that all Montanans have their back – regardless of political affiliation.

AG Knudsen Secures Major Immigration Win Forcing Biden to Keep Title 42 in Place

FOR RELEASE
April 25th, 2022
Contact: alden@mtgop.org

HELENA, Mont. – A federal judge today granted Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen’s request for a temporary restraining order (TRO) that prevents the Biden administration from lifting the Title 42 border policy that allows border patrol officials to expel illegal migrants in order to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

In response to today’s decision by Judge Summerhays, Montana Republican Party Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt released the following statement:

“The federal judge’s decision to block the last buffer between Joe Biden and his open border pipedream was a tremendous win for Montanans,” Chairman Kaltschmidt said. “Thankfully in the face of a Presidential administration fixated on pushing an open-border agenda, we have leaders like Attorney General Knudsen, Governor Gianforte, Senator Daines, and Congressman Rosendale that are working to protect Montanans from the wave of drugs, crime, and chaos that comes along with the southern border being left wide open. It is absurd that President Biden is continuing to harass American citizens for not wearing a mask or being vaccinated, while simultaneously welcoming illegal immigrants into American communities without even being tested. It is time for Joe Biden to listen to the bipartisan majority of Congress, end this assault on border security, and begin working in the best interest of American families and communities.”

Title 42 was put in place during the height of the pandemic by President Trump in order to allow Border officials to swiftly remove illegal migrants attempting to cross the southern border illegally due to their high rate of Covid infection. After attempting to weaken our ability to protect our border by suspending deportations, telling ICE and border patrol to stand down, and refusing to finish the border wall, Joe Biden is attempting to get rid of Title 42 which is the last line of defense for border officials to get control of the crisis.

Due to Joe Biden’s open-border policies, Montana has seen a dramatic spike in illegal drugs such as fentanyl, meth, opioids, and heroin being smuggled from across the Southern border into Montana communities. The increase in drugs in Montana is also driving a significant increase in violent crime across the state.

Judge Summerhays’s decision will allow border officials to continue swiftly expelling illegal migrants and maintain some measure of control at the border.

Montana Democrats Show Hypocrisy in Montana Supreme Court Race

FOR RELEASE
April 6, 2022
Contact: alden@mtgop.org

HELENA, Mont. – In a statement released last week, Montana Democrat Party Executive Director Sheila Hogan called the Montana Republican Party’s endorsement of James Brown for election to the Montana Supreme Court “unprecedented and deeply troubling”. They also called it “nothing less than an all-out attack on a co-equal branch of government”. In response to the attacks levied by Hogan, Montana Republican Party Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt released the following statement:

“Ms. Hogan’s accusations are not only riddled with inaccuracies, but once again show the downright dishonesty of the Montana Democrats,” Chairman Kaltschmidt said. “The Montana Democrats can say whatever they want, but the facts speak for themselves. Our endorsement of James Brown is neither unprecedented nor deeply troubling. If the Montana Democrats were honest with the people of Montana, they would have shared their record of supporting judicial candidates. Just 6 years ago, the Montana Democrats spent over $60,000 to help elect Dirk Sandefur to the Montana Supreme Court. Their dishonesty is an insult to the people of Montana, but unfortunately is unsurprising.”

In 2016, the Montana Democratic Party spent over $60,000 to send out more than 93,000 mailers and run more than 200 radio ads supporting Dirk Sandefur for election to the Montana Supreme Court. They also explicitly supported his campaign saying, “The Montana Democratic Party joins folks of all political backgrounds in supporting Dirk Sandefur.”

The suggestion from Democrats that the Republican Party is waging some sort of imaginary attack on the Montana Judiciary by supporting a candidate for election is laughable. And while attacking the Montana Republican Party for “politicizing the court”, Justice Gustafson is lining up Democrat super-donors who have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to liberal candidates like Steve Bullock, Jon Tester, and Joe Biden in an effort to help her own re-election campaign.

If the Montana Democrats want to become relevant in Montana again, they should stop with their untruthful charades and start being honest with the people of Montana.

MTGOP Endorses Jim Brown for Montana Supreme Court

FOR RELEASE
March 30, 2022
Contact: alden@mtgop.org

HELENA, Mont. – At last night’s Executive Board meeting, the Montana Republican Party unanimously voted to endorse PSC Chairman Jim Brown’s election campaign to replace Justice Ingrid Gustafson on the Montana Supreme Court.

Montana Republican Party Chairman, Don “K” Kaltschmidt, released the following statement after the decision:

“Jim Brown has a long and distinguished record of integrity as a private attorney and as a Public Service Commissioner,” Chairman Kaltschmidt said. “The Montana Supreme Court has become politicized as the last lever of power for the Democratic party in Montana, and the last thing Montanans want is six more years of another liberal activist judge. Commissioner Brown will uphold the Constitution, stand for law and order, and never legislate from the bench. Electing Jim Brown, a true constitutional coservative to the Montana Supreme Court, will begin to restore integrity and confidence in Montana’s Judicial system. The Montana Republican Party is proud to support his candidacy and we look forward to seeing him elected in November.”

Governor Gianforte, Senator Daines, Congressman Rosendale, and Attorney General Knudsen all endorsed Commissioner Brown citing his strict judicial philosophy, his experience, and his commitment to the rule of law. Brown will be on the ballot in the primary on June 7th against Justice Gustafson, who is weak on crime and violent criminals, and liberal Helena Judge Mike McMahon, who has a record of opposing the 2nd Amendment. The two candidates receiving the most votes in the primary will advance to the general election in November.

Jon Tester Announces Support for Radical SCOTUS Nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson

FOR RELEASE
March 25, 2022
Contact: alden@mtgop.org

HELENA, Mont. – Today, Senator Jon Tester announced his intention to vote in favor of Joe Biden’s far left Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson. Tester, along with his boss Chuck Schumer, are forging ahead with her nomination despite numerous serious concerns raised by Republican Senators, which should concern all Montanans. In response to Tester’s announcement, Montana Republican Party Chairman Don “K” Kaltschmidt released the following statement:

“Jon Tester’s decision to support Joe Biden’s radical Supreme Court nominee is as reckless, but unsurprising,” Chairman Kaltschmidt said. “Judge Jackson has a long and disturbing record that includes being lenient with child predators, defending terrorists in her private practice, and voting to strike down President Trump’s executive orders that kept Americans safe. Jackson’s confirmation hearing did nothing to ease those concerns and she even refused to answer the most basic questions – including being unwilling to define the word “woman”. Judge Jackson has no business sitting on the U.S. Supreme Court and Senator Tester’s support for her is just one more example of how he has left Montana behind for D.C. special interests.”

Judge Brown Jackson has also previously expressed support for Critical Race Theory and allowed criminals in possession of child porn back onto the streets earlier than the sentencing guidelines. Jackson has been an activist judge that legislates from the bench for her entire career and there is no evidence to suggest that would change if she is confirmed to the Supreme Court.
